One-of-a-Kind Foraged Wood Cribbage Boards

Unique Board: No. 45 Blondie

1 item left

Inspired by the forests and ocean that surround us, our large tabletop Branch Wood and Driftwood Cribbage Boards are as unique and beautiful as the trees they come from and the ocean forces that shape them.

Hearkening back to maker Geoff's roots in the fine arts, each board is a one-of-a-kind work of art. Geoff forages for these pieces in the back woods of our forest or on his travels, looking for pieces with a cribbage story to tell. He brings them back to the workshop, dries and cures them for months and sometimes years, then sees what it wants to be by carving, cutting, drilling, sanding, finishing, and detailing it.

We spend time in the workshop on each board to uncover its natural features and develop its hidden talents. When playing on the boards, we love the curving, natural journey your pegs take, sometimes jumping over obstacles, climbing hills, or following steep descents. These topographic features make the journey special and natural, like a Sunday stroll.

These boards are sculptural display pieces. Most boards have a little extra height with joined foraged branch legs. We've found that playing the game by tossing the cards underneath the natural bridge made by the curve in the branches is a delightful part of the game.

Although each board is unique, what every board has in common:
- signed and dated by the artist (Geoff)
- the play surface is sanded and finished with a hardwearing clear satin gloss
- the bark and/or organic character of the piece is left as intact as possible

Read the description and photos of each board listing carefully, because each one contains unique features. Some have peg storage, different kinds or sizes of pegs, some have 3 or even 4 tracks, some have legs with nonskid feet, wall hooks, and even more features. Whenever possible, we link each board to an online photo gallery showing more pictures of the board: click the link to see more photos of the board.

Because each board is one-of-a-kind, there is only a quantity of one for each board. When it's sold, it's gone forever.

We do custom commissions! Browse a gallery of our past boards for inspiration and contact us for details.

Currently on offer:

DRIFTWOOD BOARD No. 45 "Blondie"
Blond wood with black mineral streaks is gorgeous! Great size to play with a large group. Looks great on the wall if you can stop playing on it. Featuring a 3-track, looped, 120-point course with freehand wood-burned peg holes and skunk line. Hidden peg storage included with standard size pegs. Includes wall hook.
Measures: 31" x 9.5" x 4"

DRIFTWOOD BOARD No. 46 "Chunk"
Named after local movie character Chunk from our local Astoria Oregon classic, "Goonies." Parts of this chunk of cedar contain burl, charring, and saltwater coloration. Was it struck by lightning? Did it survive a forest fire? One thing is for sure, it's been to sea. And is one of the most unique boards I've had the pleasure to pay. Featuring a 3-track, single-track, 60-point course with freehand wood-burned peg holes. Hidden peg storage included with small size pegs. Includes wall hook.
Measures: 18" x 6" x 3.75"

DRIFTWOOD BOARD No. 48 "Sea Cave"
This piece of driftwood revealed the most striking wood grain coloration. The wood fibers were a little soft, but have been stabilized. Small but mighty. This is wonderful to play on and beautiful to look at. Featuring a 3-track, looped, 120-point course with freehand wood-burned peg holes and skunk line. Hidden peg storage included with standard size pegs. Includes wall hook.
Measures: 22" x 6" x 3.5"

DRIFTWOOD BOARD No. 32 "Boardwalk"
It is a real treat to play on this oversized board with oversized pegs. This long cedar plank is a major statement piece. It could have originated from anywhere along the West Coast, but it drifted up on our part of the beach, shaped by the Pacific Ocean as it is. I added hidden peg storage and a wall hook for hanging when not in use. It features a 2-player, looped 120-point course with freehand woodburned peg holes and super giant pegs in stainless steel and brass. More photos here.
Measures:52” (132cm) x 4” (10cm) x 3.5” (9cm)

DRIFTWOOD BOARD No. 36 "Quicksilver"
Naturally shaped by the ocean. Worm tunnels create a beautifully spalted grain in this piece of driftwood, and some of the larger tunnels I filled with polished aluminum, giving the board its name. Featuring a 2-player, single-track 120-point course with freehand woodburned peg holes, point sections, and skunk line. Hidden peg storage included with standard size pegs in copper and nickel. There is not currently a wall hook on the board but we can add one upon request.
Measures: 27" x 9" x 4.5"

FOREST BOARD No. 37 "Roundup"
A creamy branch of alderwood foraged from our Oregon coastal forest. The rosy heartwood in the center is blushing pink color. The bark is intact and silky. Featuring a 2-player, single-track 120-point course with freehand woodburned peg holes, point sections, and skunk line. Hidden peg storage included with standard size pegs in copper and nickel, held in place with a cork from a bottle of Pendleton Whiskey, featuring the Pendleton Rodeo Roundup logo. There is not currently a wall hook on the board but we can add one upon request.
Measures: 24" x 2.5" x 3"

DRIFTWOOD BOARD No. 38 "Cinderella's Slipper"
Naturally shaped by the ocean into a dramatic high-heel shoe shape with torn ends. The topography in this board is super-fun to play on, like a funhouse rollercoaster. Featuring a 2-player, single-track 120-point course with freehand woodburned peg holes, point sections, and skunk line. Hidden peg storage included with "small" size pegs in brass and nickel. There is not currently a wall hook on the board but we can add one upon request.
Measures: 13" x 11" x 5"

DRIFTWOOD BOARD No. 39 "Sneaker Wave"
Naturally shaped by the ocean into a voluptuous, rounded piece with an impossibly thin bridge in the center. The rounded shape and rounded legs hold the space. This board has an artist "quirk" with an extra 1-point section for a non-standard 61-point course. Featuring a 2-player, single-track with freehand woodburned peg holes and point sections. Hidden peg storage included with standard size pegs in copper and nickel. There is not currently a wall hook on the board but we can add one upon request.
Measures: 17" x 4" x 4"

FOREST BOARD No. 40 "Komodo Dragon"
Foraged from a brush cutting on the island of Kauai in Hawaii, this branch wood is  a dense tropical hardwood. Chunky legs of the same branch wood give a lizard-like posture to the board. It rides low to the table, but is raised up enough you can still deal cards underneath it. Featuring a 2-player, single-track 120-point course with freehand woodburned peg holes and an "S" marked skunk line. Hidden peg storage included with standard size pegs in copper and nickel. There is not currently a wall hook on the board but we can add one upon request.
Measures: 20" x 6.5" x 2.5"

DRIFTWOOD BOARD No. 43 "Honey Glow"
Glowing honey-colored wood in a tightly-spiraling grain. A real showstopper with its rollercoaster playing surface. It displays on the wall but is sure to find a home as a centerpiece. Excellent height, excellent movement. Its hard to pull your eyes away. Featuring a 3-player, looped, 120-point course with freehand wood-burned peg holes and a skunk line. Hidden peg storage included with standard size pegs. Includes wall hook.
Measures: 34" x 7" x 5.5"

DRIFTWOOD BOARD No. 44 "The Turtle's Back"
It's glowing red mystery wood. Super hard. Super dense. And mesmerizing. It drifted across the Pacific Ocean to land on the Oregon sand in Manzanita. It's hard to let go of this one. Featuring a 2-track, looped, 120-point course with freehand wood-burned peg holes. Hidden peg storage included with standard size pegs. Includes wall hook.
Measures: 23" x 7" x 5"

DRIFTWOOD BOARD No. 47 "Cedar Serpentine"
I think this is the root of a cedar tree washed downriver, out to sea, and back again. Great color and grain. 3 legs make it very stable with a wonderful cantilever finish. Featuring a 3-track, single-track, 60-point course with freehand wood-burned peg holes. Hidden peg storage included with standard size pegs. Includes wall hook.
Measures: 28" x 4.5" x 4"

    Well received gift.

Cribbage is our family game. Over the years my brothers, son, duaughter, and I've exchanged intriguing boards. The Komodo Dragon board one was extraordinarily well-received and graces a showroom where select customers are invited to play. The explanation of its origin made the recipient want to get back to Hawaii.
