Bicycle Frame Handle - "Little Lifter"

Our "Little Lifter" Frame Handle offers a solution to a common bicycle commuting problem: it makes lifting and maneuvering your bike easier. Everyday obstacles like stairs, curbs, garage hooks, trolleys and trains can make carrying your bike challenging.

Like attaching a briefcase handle to your bike, the Frame Handle lowers the bike's center of gravity and takes advantage of your most commonly-used muscle groups to make lifting feel easier, lighter, and more in control.

Originally launched on Kickstarter and featured in the Museum of Modern Art’s (MoMA) Design Store, the Frame Handle is easy to install, weatherproofed, sustainably handcrafted from American leather, and available in colors to match your leather saddles. It comes in sizes Regular and Large for different size frame tubes (see Size info below).

COLORS: Honey, Dark Brown, or Black.

MATERIALS: Bridle leather, nickel-plated steel hardware

DIMENSIONS: The Frame Handle measures approximately 7.5” end-to-end, with the handle itself running approximately 5.5” long.

SIZES: If in doubt, order the size Large.

  • The "Regular" size Frame Handle will fit most bikes. It fits tube circumferences approximately 3.15" - 5.75".
  • The "Large" size fits tube circumferences approximately 3.75" - 8.25" (usually mountain bikes and e-bikes).

SIZE NOTE: The standard "Large" order comes with one regular belt, to fit the seat tube, and one large belt to fit the down tube. In nearly all cases, the seat tube is a size Regular to fit the standard-sized seat post, but if you need TWO large end belts - such as for a Brompton top tube - simply leave us a note under 'Special Instructions' and we will include two large end belts upon request at no additional charge.

MONOGRAMMING: Yes! This item can be monogrammed with up to 4 characters using our 1/2" font set. Monogramming can add 2-3 days to the turnaround time. Monogram placement is shown in the last photo. Learn more about monogramming.

No more awkward stairs! ;)

I love my new handle. I’ve been carrying my bike up and down stairs to my apartment and this handle makes that MUCH easier.

Plus, I asked for plastic free packaging and they fulfilled the request! Even including a handwritten note about the company’s plans for phasing out single use plastic and instead making packaging biodegradable. Thanks for being environmentally conscious!!!

FYI: if you make purchases online, there is usually a box to send sellers a note - I have found many (not all) companies are willing to comply to plastic free packaging requests.

Functional, beautiful, priced accordingly

Yes, this handle is rather expensive considering what it does: for me, it is only enabling me to carry my bike up one flight of stairs at my apartment. However, considering the fact that I make this little climb at least three times every week, the cumulative amount of comfort provided by this little handle over the months is adding up. Furthermore, Walnut as a business does an excellent job at character and branding, from their packaging and presentation to their occasional and relevant email follow-up messages. Workmanship is high-quality, and I am proud to have supported this company with my purchase.

Poor quality design and fabrication

First, the rivets are reversed so that the sharp side is against your hand when lifting. And the strap has a curved design so there is no way to reverse it to put the smooth side of the rivets in the proper direction. Second, the cut edges of the leather are ragged. You would never expect a high quality belt or handbag to have edges like this. Third, the buckling scheme does not allow a tight fit against the frame so the strap slips upward when lifting. It eventually slips up to where the bottle mounts on the seat tube stop it, but that creates a lifting angle of the strap that presses the bottle mounts against the heel of your hand.
