Bicycle Frame Handle - The "Little Lifter"
I purchased a Little Lifter - Bicycle Frame Handle on 10/22/15. It broke 07/13/17. I loved that handle, but for the price, I expected it to last longer. I have no plans to buy a replacement.
This is one of those "make your life easier" items that was really well thought out and executed. I read a lot of the reviews before buying it and some complained that the metal on the handle scratches the bike paint. I really can't see how that will happen if you install it correctly. The metal parts are inserted through the loop and voila...non-issue. I tried to force them out and even then they stayed put. I had some tape all ready to protect the frame and didn't end up needing it. I also saw a complaint about balance...my bike frame is far from symmetrical and certainly not balanced. But the lifter still works very well and I'd rather have it than not have anything. It just does it's job...it helps with lifting, whether it's to carry or hoist up on a rack. Lastly, I saw some complaints about price...really? This is a hand made item that is exceptionally well made using the best materials. It will outlast you. If you think you can do better for less money, knock yourself out! The last thing I want to do is try and replicate something that looks and works so well to save a few bucks. In case you can't tell...I love this thing. Oh...and the leather smells amazing too btw!
Superb quality....thanks for the quick shipping, too.
This thing is hot and handy - shiny and sexy, sexy in all the right places. Dagnab, it's a lovely leather beaut that I'm proud to call my own. I may be the one holding it, but it definitely carries its own weight.
I don't mind paying mind for a superior product that will make my life on and off the bike easier. That's where The Little helper comes on, but don't do the full job. The two main issues are:
1. It scratches the frame paint: as other reviewers noted, it's borderline impossible to keep the metallic parts of the buckled tucked inside the leather ring and, as soon as you pull the handle, the buckles will move and scratch the paint. I've tried covering them with several different matters, but, at the end, I had to put transparent adhesives on the frame and also cover the buckles with tape. Not only does it look very ugly now, but I also had scratches on my frame until I realized it was scratching it, since I supposed the buckles wouldn't have moved that much. It's a huge shame, since they could very easily have put a leather flap to cover them or just come up with some other solution. I wouldn't mind paying more from that and given, the price and the positioning of the company, I was surprised to find what I consider to be a design flaw.
2.No help with balance: if you don't use heavy panniers, then that will not affect you, but, if you have them, then it becomes very hard to use The Little Helper to carry the bike, since it will be "falling" to the heavier side. I know that there's nothing the company can do about how gravity works, but I think it's important for commuter that carry pannier to know about that.
I wish they had thought the product more thoroughly. And I'll be happy to buy a new model if they update these issues.
Lovely handle for my Mother's Pashley. She loves it! Thank you!
When I got notice of the sale, I ordered another and I moved my first Little Lifter to my lighter bike, for which I didn't need it as much. The undyed one is not as attractive as the black because both my bikes are blue, with black seats and black or silver fenders - no natural leather color anywhere else.
Somehow I couldn't justify buying a second at full price, but managed to justify it because of the discount. My '80's straight tubing steel bike with the rear Wald steel basket is much easier to haul up stairs with the Little Lifter.
FYI, I still find it easier to carry the bike down stairs by getting my shoulder under the top bar, because the bikes are rear-heavy. Not good to have the rear hang down when the higher steps are behind you.
Awesome accent to my urban ride! Thx!
With the Little Lifter, my bike now officially invites me to constantly grab, lift, and hug her close to me on the stairs. Thank you.
Bought as a gift for my brother, who is a bicycle commuter in DC. He says it is very clever and useful. And makes trekking up stairs with his bike much easier!
Form, Function, Fast shipping, FANTASTIC service!
Such a brilliant idea, and really beautifully made. The recipient was so excited to use it.
Little Lifter - Bicycle Frame Handle
Little Lifter - Bicycle Frame Handle
Wonderful craftsmanship, service and business acumen. Honestly the added sentiments on the stickers rounded it all out.
The Little Lifter come in very handy for this short person. It’s a well-made handle. Lovely leather!
Belle poignée de transport très pratique pour prendre les transports en commun.
I can carry my bike up two flights of stairs with a pannier and a backpack and still be balanced. In my case, the downtube is larger than the seat tube. Walnut studios accommodated the difference and sent a large size strap for the downtube. The service was convenient and fast. I would definitely buy this product for other bicycles.
This simple, well-made, portaging handle just changed my biking life! This handle allows me to carry my bike up my stairs in a balanced manner. It's not easy since My bike vintage touring bike now outfitted with a dog seat = extra heavy.
But the bike is nostalgic so it's a keeper. And now I can safely portage the bike up a flight of stairs to my Chicago 2 flat. Thanks!
Great little product! Well made and the packaging is killer. Can't really say anything bad about this product.
Makes getting around with my bike so much easier!!! Looks good too! Highly recommended!!!
I was very happy with the excellent quality of my lifter. The design aspects of it for vintage and classic bicycles are perfect.
Expertly crafted. Looks great on my new bike and really makes it easy to portage. So happy with this little gem
Really beautiful and solidly made.
Had problems with customs and had to pay 25 dolars more.
As I live in an apartment up a significant amount of stairs and I I have a vulnerable back, I had high hopes when I ordered the Little Lifter. I have no regrets. It has made it much easier for me to move my bike up and down a challenging staircase, and the quality of the Little Lifter is a nice fit, in every way, including aesthetically, with my brand new touring bike. I wouldn't own a bike without one! I am very happy.
I have to lift my heavy bike up stairs frequently, so this handle is perfect for easy carrying! The design could be better however. The buckles are even in length which is a mistake in design since many bikes have a thicker down tube vs. a seat tube. I could barely make it on the last hole of the strap on the down tube. After some use I've noticed the straps have stretched quite a bit already and the hole of the strap on the down tube is already rip/stretching out. I forsee this not lasting as long as I hoped.
This is one of the neatest bike accessories I have bought. It just comes in so handy. This is the second one I have and wouldn't trade it for anything. Thanks.
The frame lifter is great. Pick up my commuter bike on the train, then down the train, then up the stairs of the train station, etc. You get the point. Yes be careful when you install it so it does not scratch your frame. I had it for over a year now and this thing is great. Also, it looks like somebody did it instead of coming out of a production line. Thank you.
Beautifully made and a really big help getting my bike in/out of apartment.
Made and wrapped with such pride, shipped efficiently. Thank you!
The Little Lifter is beautiful and seems well made. So far I'm not finding that it helps redistribute the weight all that much though.
dooooooope dooooooope dooooooope doooope
Looks great and compliments the other leather accents on my bike.
yes this is a nice handle for lifting the bike but it done some scratches to the frame .
It's a handle it works
This well made little number makes lifting my steel bike up and down NYC apartment stairs a total breeze. The honey colored lifted matches my Brooks saddle and grips and adds a whole new level of awesomeness to my bike. Thanks!
My trouble of getting on the train is finally solved. Thanks a lot guys!
The belt didn't exactly fit my bike and that would have been fine except for the fact that the thing is way overpriced.
Works super. Lots of compliments :)
I bought one for my mom and one for my cousin because they go on weeks-long bike touring trips together. They both loved it! The craftsmanship is simple yet elegant, and they do exactly what they were designed to do. I can't speak for durability since I just gave them as gifts, but they appear to be pretty durable.
Having problems fitting the buckle so that it doesn’t scratch paint.
My girl is digging her new handle and so am I because I don't have to carry her bike and mine up and down the stairs for her anymore, not that I minded of course
Should have bought this a long, long time ago.
Strongly recommend it. I live on the third floor and it's such a huge help. Looks pretty sweet on my bike too.
I like it,everyone asks where I got it
We got the 6 pack holder and the handle to help you lift your bike up a few stories - both really nice pieces. Additionally, the first package sent out was stolen at my building and customer service was so helpful! They insure all of their packages and helped me quickly and efficiently to get a new package. Really great unique products and I would absolutely shop here again.
I really like the Little Lifter. My bike, designed for randonneuring with a front rack and handlebar bag, is not easy to lift - let alone climb stairs with - when the handlebar bag is loaded. But the Little Lifter makes lifting easy! One small problem: the location of the Little Lifter prevents mounting a water bottle on the seat tube. But my bike has a third bottle mount located under the downtube, so I can carry my second water bottle down there. As long as I don’t need a third water bottles, I’m good.
Such a simple idea which makes carrying my bike up and down the steps at the railway station each day so much easier and controlled
This thing single-handedly (get it?) makes storing our bikes in our basement tolerable. My wife can now easily carry her bike up and down the steps so we can enjoy the security of having our bikes inside.
it's a great idea, the design is wonderful
One of those things that you don’t know you need but once you have a Little Lifter you wonder what has taken you so long to get one. It just makes life that little bit easier. and it is the little things in life that count.
Cheers Walnut for improving my day, everyday
I have put the Little Lifter on my A. Homer Hilsen touring bike (by Rivendell), and it is a match in practical and aesthetic heaven. Looks great, makes carrying my Homer upstairs and into my car so much easier. Thanks!
Looks classy, but it's so long it hits my bottle cage when I use it. So, it doesnt fit the geometry of my frame, a medium surly ecr. A smaller size or adjustability would make this perfect because its so nice for lifting my bike up and down stairs.
My previous bike was stolen, along with its little lifter! I hope whoever has it appreciates it as much as I do. So glad I bought myself a new one!
It makes toting your bicycle from one location to another so much easier and helpful. Would highly recommend this product to those who transport their bike(s) around a lot.
i got this as a gift for a friend who recently moved into an apartment where he has to carry his bike up a tall flight of stairs. it's perfect!
this replaced a para-cord handle that i had made myself. much nicer and nicer looking! totally love it.

Works perfectly, in addition to being amazingly looking. Need I say I am overthetop pleased?
Its a great way to get your bike in and out but after my first light rain I wondered about how the sand, salt, grit and oil off the road would treat the leather. I usually ride with a pannier too which makes my bike super backheavy making the lifter rather difficult to use properly. Currently sitting in a drawer.
I'm from Singapore ordered it without sec thought , very useful in helping me climb the stair as I hate waiting for the Lift . The material look tough enough but like some reviewer mentioned the metal parts on the strap could scratch the paint work of the bike .
I have to push it inside the loop of the strap to prevent it from happening.
Double YES! The coolest thing ever! I have both this and the Portage Strap and it just makes life so simply comfortable. So I have both straps, a Brooks saddle, Brooks bar tape and tool bag all in honey leather and they go perfectly together. Thank you so much!
Does exactly as advertised. Makes hauling around your bike a lot easier.
Can't stop love this !!
The lifter works great for going upstairs. I have a heavy steel bike which is quite a bit easier to carry upstairs due to the Little Lifter. Well worth the price and it looks stylish too.
I have one on all of my bicycles.
Best way to portage a bike.
I admit, I was skeptical that this handle would make it reasonably easier to carry my 40+ pound bike up to my third floor apartment. I was also skeptical it would fit as my derailleur is mounted higher on my seat tube than most bikes. I was also skeptical it could make a big enough difference to justify the $44 price tag. However, this bike handle makes carrying my bike up and down the stairs easier than I ever thought possible. Before the handle arrived I had actually injured my wrist and shoulder carrying my bike, but the handle is ergonomic and somehow distributes the weight evenly. It fit with no problems, thanks in particular to the numerous holes punched that allow for a variety of bike sizes. And, considering I no longer dread having to haul my bike up/downstairs, it was worth every penny.
I recently moved into an upstairs apartment. Carrying my fat tire bike up the stairs after a long ride was tiring and dangerous! When the front tire swung around, the bike would push me off-balance and backward (I am a short, light-weight 66-year-old female). I thought I would fall down the stairs. With the lifter, I carry the bike up the stairs with no problem. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this great product.
I'd heard good things from friends about this, but it does not appear to distribute the weight properly for mixtes. I think I have too much weight at the rear of my bike with a rack and stuff. It's a cool operation, and a cool idea, just did not work for my mixte.
