Step-by-Step Guide: Wrap a Gift with a Bandana

Know-how is the only thing you need to turn an everyday bandana into a reusable gift wrap using the Japanese art of knotting and folding fabric (furoshiki). The bandana turns out to be a perfect size for most small to medium sized items, like books and travel games.

Step-by-Step How-to: The Everyday Bandana Gift Wrap

Here’s a step-by-step photo guide to a basic everyday wrap using a bandana:

Lay the bandana out on the diagonal in front of you. Place the object to be wrapped in the center.

Take the bottom corner closest to you and fold at the bottom edge of the object. If the corner of the fabric is above the object, tuck it underneath the object.

Take the top corner and fold it down over the object. If the corner of the fabric is below the object, fold and tuck so top half of the bandana aligns with the bottom edge of the object.

Gather the two outstretched edges of the cloth, one in each hand, and tie in a double knot.

Unfurl the corners of the fabric where you tied the knot to emphasize the pretty bow. You're done!

Walnut Studiolo’s Furoshiki Gift Wrap Service

In 2024, Walnut Studiolo introduced a new gift wrap service using the Bicycle Print Bandana. We do the wrapping for you and present a beautiful hand-knotted gift for many of our items.

We offer the same color choices as our bandana, and include a special insert explaining to the recipient what the gift wrap is and how they can re-use or re-gift it!
