Geoff forages for characterful pieces on North Oregon Coast beaches, looking for pieces with a story to tell.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAt the workshop, he evaluates each piece individually. \u003c\/span\u003eHe brings them back to the workshop, dries and cures them for months and sometimes years, then sees what it wants to be: by carving, cutting, drilling, sanding, finishing, and detailing it. But by revealing what's underneath, sanding away the surface to take a look at the wood grain, we discover what the uniformly weathered gray driftwood exterior surface is hiding. It could reveal a complex wood grain, light or dark colors, sometimes a wood that came from just upriver, and sometimes a wood that might have crossed the ocean. Sanded areas are given a clear satin gloss to enhance the juxtaposition of surfaces. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThese boards are sculptural display pieces with hanging hardware and an (optional) wood display placard with artist statement.
